Most of what we know of the great civilisations is based on the art they left behind. So, now that the Golden Age of Josh Ralph-Smith has ended at AutoPot, what are we to divine from his dazzling designs?
Yes, dear reader, it has come to pass. Our verily valued visual visionary (designer) has vacated the realm of automatic plant watering systems. But rest assured, this is no apocalyptic event. It is not the extinction of Josh’s craft. Unlike the Incas, Mayas, and Aztecs, Josh has simply gone to Farnham to do marketing for a recruitment company.
From his AutoPot-era art we can certainly say that Josh was a sensitive designer, always in tune with the needs of his people (social media feeds). And far from being digital-only he was a top drawer draw-er, able to communicate as deftly on paper as on screen.
So he was a visionary, sure, we get it! But when set to task was Josh really the fearlessly decisive idealist that myths describe? Just a bit! Like a high priest hoping for a bumper harvest, he executed with gusto, sacrificing everything in sight (especially biscuits) for the greater good of majestic marketing materials.
Generous to a fault with his use of new colours and fonts, Josh was not afraid to provoke the gods (stuffy superiors) with his insurgent verve. And let’s not forget his creative use of the tea and coffee making facilities – as a means of showing his benevolent side to all at Head Office.
Was his disappearance sudden? Well, he did propose a one week notice period (rejected) but as the all great ones always say, ‘leave the crowds wanting more!’ We hope he’ll excuse a little gentle joshing. We know that, like all young luminaries, he was simply pumped up for pastures new and wish Josh all the best as he charges off to chew the creative cud elsewhere.
We’ll sure miss that guy! As we hack our way through the lush jungle of Josh-loss that has sprung up in his absence we can always look back with fondness on his streak of artistry. Like a comet he’ll surely be around again, what with us having his mobile, his email, him being 5 mins down the road, and him being the son of AutoPot MD Jason Ralph-Smith, all the best chief!
